At 14, Piers got hold of a copy of Macromedia Flash 4, and that was it. There was something about the combination of an open-ended design and animation tool, coupled with a low barrier to entry programming environment, that absolutely captivated him. Without really knowing it at the time, he was learning to do what's now referred to as creative coding, and developing a lifelong love for design, technology, and visual practice.

With a rich background in the creation and application of technology to a diverse set of visual, interactive and user-oriented problems, Piers' experience spans a broad range of technical and creative disciplines. The early years of his working life were spent as a graphic designer and illustrator, during which he found a particular love for typography and type-led design. He then moved into software engineering, where he has now spent the majority of his career. After being part of a successful exit to Amazon in 2011, he played a central role in engineering efforts to bring the Prime Video service to Europe, overseeing the deployment of a TV application development framework he had created prior to acquisition. He then moved to Snapchat, where he was the first engineering hire in Europe and oversaw the development of the web-based creative tools that Snapchat provides to third party brands, and later served as Head of Creative Engineering for Snapchat's World AR program. Alongside professional work, Piers also maintains a personal artistic practice that includes both digital and physical processes, and where he operates under the artist name Oops Caps.

Since 2020, Piers has been co-founder and CTO at Modyfi, a new design platform built from the ground up for multidisciplinary designers. Two decades after first falling in love with creative tools, he is now building the next generation of design tooling – with an emphasis on the creative play and exploration that first captured his imagination.
